What Is Provider Credentialing Process?™

Hiring incompetent healthcare providers or allowing them to remain with your facility can lead to increased liabilities in malpractice suits. In order to ensure that your facility does not suffer from this, it is important that credentialing and enrollment of your providers is managed properly and kept up to date. Failure writing a letter to insurance company to do so can and will have a negative impact on your revenue cycle. Add to this, the regulatory requirements under which your facility can be at risk of compliance violations.

To ensure that your provider credentialing and enrollment processes are managed properly, it is important to understand the difference between the two.

Provider Credentialing/What is Credentialing

Credentialing refers to the process of verifying the proven skills, training and education of healthcare providers. Verification of the providers credentials are done by contacting the “Primary Sourceâ€, which has provided the license, training and education. The credentialing process is used by healthcare facilities as part of their hiring process and by insurance companies to allow the provider to participate in their network. Credentialing is also the validation of a provider in a private health plan and the approval to join the network.

Provider Enrollment

Enrollment refers to the process of requesting participation in a health insurance network as a provider. The process involves requesting participation, completing the credentialing process, submitting supporting documents and signing the contract. Enrollment is also the validation of a provider in a public health plan and the approval to bill the agency for services rendered.

Importance of Provider Credentialing

Provider credentialing dates back to 1000 BC, and has been an important if not critical part of healthcare services. The process of credentialing has undergone many changes over the centuries; however, the content of credentialing has remained the same – a verification of the education, training, experience, expertise and willingness to provide medical services by the provider. It was around 1990, that national organizations started which were dedicated to the credentialing of medical providers. Around the same time, the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) set guidelines on the process and method of credentialing medical providers.

These guidelines ensure that healthcare providers have undergone stringent scrutiny with regards to their ability and competence, thus making sure that the patients receive the highest level of healthcare. For a patient, it is assuring and confidence boosting to know that your healthcare provider’s credentials are certified as through the healthcare credentialing process, thus ensuring that you are in good and competent hands. For the provider, it states that their colleagues are held to the same standards as them. For the healthcare facility, it shows that they value quality care and place the patient’s well being as a primary goal.

It is very important to remember that in today’s world of health insurance and revenue cycles, improper credentialing can lead to delayed or denied reimbursement for services provided. Worse, it could lead to serious consequences for all concerned in terms of statutory compliance violations, which can result in monetary damages and criminal charges.

Provider credentialing and enrollment has been overlooked as an important component of healthcare management practices for years. However, their impact on compliance issues and financial aspects to a practice has ensured that these are now key components to any thriving practice.

This article has been very helpful. I was previously in a work place handling the credentialing (PSV) Primary Source Verifications and other departments (provider relations, provider enrollment, contracts, credentialing) were all separate and now I currently work in an environment where all are combined. Its a heavy load when all roles are combined. Although they all work hand in hand and you can’t complete one process without the footwork of the other. Give or take a few, this article distinguishes the difference. Thank you!

Safely and securely Opening PDFs Obtained By E-mail (or Fax?

Why Fax Won’t Die™

As long as some continue to insist on faxes, companies keep working to make sending a fax feel like you’re not sending a fax at all.

When OrderSnapp, a company that helps restaurants take orders online, works with its clients, it lets them choose how they want to be notified about incoming orders. Some prefer email, and some would rather get push notifications through their phones, says company president Ron Resnick. But a substantial number of OrderSnapp’s clients-somewhere between 30 and 40 percent, Resnick estimates-prefer to have their customers’ web and app orders delivered through a technology that has been rumored to be extinct: the fax machine.

“A lot of the smaller, family-owned or individually owned restaurants, there’s a lot of them that still don’t have Internet access,†says Resnick. “They’re not very Internet savvy, or they don’t have an iPad or a mobile device in the store that they can receive the orders on.â€

Like many businesses in older industries, from law firms to medical labs, fax machines aren’t seen as some ‘80s anachronism but as an efficient, reliable, and mostly secure way to communicate-the same way their own customers see their laptops and smartphones.

“Faxing has been there for so long, and they’re so used to it,†says Resnick. “It doesn’t cost them anything extra. It’s still a very good success rate with it, as far as them going through.â€

To bridge the gap between the two eras of messaging technology, OrderSnapp, based in Rochester, N.Y., uses a service called Phaxio. Calling itself “faxing for developers,†it’s one of several cloud-based faxing providers whose APIs make it possible to send and receive faxes without ever worrying about loading paper and toner into a traditional fax machine.

“It’s something that we work very hard to keep almost [invisible] for our clients,†says Phaxio cofounder Howard Avner. That is, Phaxio lets its customers build faxing into their apps and websites with the same kind of APIs they’d use to integrate 21st-century services like posting tweets or sending email confirmations, without needing to think about the phone lines and screeching modems that make it all happen.

Some of Phaxio’s customers are established companies looking to phase out their physical fax machines, and some are startups like OrderSnapp looking to work with clients in fax-dominated industries, says Avner. Either way, Phaxio’s customers don’t want to worry about the gory details of busy signals, line noise, and quirky old fax machines so they can focus on their core businesses. The company advertises simple pricing-7 cents per minute for faxing to and from the U.S. and Canada, 10 cents for other countries-and volume discounts for users with more than 50,000 faxes sent and received per day.

“We’ll work with companies from Y Combinator-it’s not a matter of crusty companies that are trying to use fax,†Avner says, citing startups building apps for industries from health care to trucking. “We sit how can i send a fax from my computer in the background and solve a really complicated problem for them.â€

Phaxio’s one of several companies bridging the gap between the modern Internet and the legacy web of fax. Y Combinator-backed HelloFax is like the HelloSign virtual signature service it begat, but it also offers the ability to send and receive faxes through the web, via email or from cloud services like Dropbox and Google Drive. Another service, Free Fax, lets users use a webform to upload and fax a limited number of documents per day, sent for free with a Free Fax cover sheet; customers can also pay to send more faxes and remove that Free Fax logo.

And EC Data Systems’ service Faxage, which lets users send and receive faxes by email, through its website or using its API, says it processes more than 11 million minutes of fax transmissions every month. Faxage measures and bills usage in minutes to make price comparisons with traditional phone plans simpler, says EC Data Systems’ president Christian Watts.

Relying on external services and software to abstract away the quirks of an underlying technology certainly isn’t unique to fax: Developers routinely use libraries like jQuery to handle the details of browser intercompatibility or tools like PhoneGap to build cross-platform mobile applications. OrderSnapp uses Amazon Web Services to send mobile push notifications and uses the cloud-based voice service Twilio to place automated calls to verify orders, so it’s natural the company would also work with a cloud-based fax provider as long as its customers keep wanting to receive faxes.

Skeptics have argued for years that fax has already long overstayed its welcome-that its continued prevalence is just the result of typical enterprise conservatism and older generations’ enthusiasm for the printed word and signatures inked on the proverbial dotted line.

But those in the digital fax industry point out that even businesses that have largely migrated records away from paper and aren’t otherwise tech-averse still find value in fax. Companies don’t just keep sending and receiving all those faxes out of pure inertia, says Faxage’s Watts.

A sense of privacy and security

Faxage’s clients include high-tech medical testing companies that need to send confidential results to doctors’ offices, and law firms and other businesses that need a secure and legally vetted way to transmit documents to clients and colleagues. Besides medicine, mortgage banking, insurance agencies, and other highly regulated industries rely on faxes because faxed contracts are generally considered to be as legally binding as a signed-in-person version.

Physicians’ internal records may have moved away from paper, but there’s no online data transfer platform anywhere near as widely deployed as fax that offers the same privacy and reliability, Watts says. So companies looking to ditch their paper fax machines switch to cloud-based fax providers, where they can securely upload and download documents and know that the rest of the transmission goes through the medium they’ve trusted for decades.

“Medical is huge, and that’s because email is not considered to be a secure medium, but fax is, in terms of sending people’s medical information around. So that’s a really really large growth area, especially with the push towards electronic medical records, and folks wanting to have it in that format,†Watts says.

Faxage and other services including Phaxio advertise HIPAA-compliant faxes for those dealing with medical data, letting users upload and download faxed documents through SSL-enabled web connections or encrypted emails.

To some, faxes might seem safer than digital communications. Phone lines are vulnerable to surveillance, but cyber-threats tend to draw more attention and thus seem more likely. After the hack at Sony, employees reportedly resorted to using phone calls and fax machines again in order to avoid hackers.

Companies know encrypted and verified email services and other secure document transfer systems exist, but they also know that many of the companies they do business with won’t have the necessary software installed, says Watts.

A medical lab, for instance, can’t insist doctors’ offices install any particular data-transfer software, but it can reliably assume they have fax machines. Or a law firm needs a way to send someone a signed copy of a contract, and while it could potentially use some sort of digital signature, decades of legal precedent have made it clear that a faxed copy is every bit as good as a mailed document.

At restaurants that deliver to businesses-even restaurants that now use apps like Seamless-customers continue to fax in their orders. For restaurant employees used to snatching printouts from a fax machine, there’s little desire to do away with a trusted technology in their kitchen workflow.

“It’s the fact that the underlying business process, whatever it is, is fax-based,†says Watts. “And in order for that underlying business practice to change, all the participants in that underlying process would have to agree that they want to change.â€

Faxes also remain an essential tool for requesting documents from many government agencies. MuckRock, a journalism startup that files and publishes FOIA requests, sends an average of about a dozen faxes a day using an email-to-fax service called Faxaway. (This works provided that government agencies have working fax machines.) “Within the last five years, the only way I’ve used a fax is through this email-to-fax application, which is the most poetic thing imaginable,†MuckRock projects editor Shawn Musgrave told Motherboard.

Racquet Sports Evaluation – Review – Nintendo Planet Report

Bell Racquet Sports: January 2020™

While pickleball may be a recreational game to some, our pickleball customers here in Rochester, New York consider it a competitive sport (yes, many are awaiting recognition from the Olympic committee). Whether you play it for fun, for fitness or to fulfill your competitive needs, safe shoes are as essential to pickleball as any other court sport. (On the theme of safety, I'll try to remember to discuss pickleball goggles in a separate blog).

We get so many requests for recommendations that we thought we'd share some pointers to guide you through the pickleball shoe selection process. The ultimate goal as with any athletic shoe purchase is to find a shoe that you feel is a good fit on your foot, with a comfortable and stable feel.

Let's start by mentioning that you must find a COURT shoe…not a running, cross-training or walking shoe all of which are built predominantly for forward motion. A court shoe is designed for motion both forward-back and side to side. They also feature cushioning for the impact to knees and back during court sports. I know it's hard to believe, but pickleball is not large enough yet for shoes to be designed as "pickleball sneakers". And really, there is no varlion need as any good court shoe is already designed for these motions.

So within the family of court shoes, we'll break it down by shoe component…

The Upper:

Any leather, synthetic leather or combination of these with a mesh or fabric. Fewer and fewer court shoes are made with actual leather these days because the synthetics can offer as much or more stability without loss of structure that leather undergoes over time as it softens. It also helps to keep the cost down as a "plastic cow hide" costs significantly less than the real deal. Okay, in all seriousness, the key word here is stability. You'll notice that most court shoes prominently feature a structural element on the sides of the upper that provides added support once you are laced in. So try them on and see how locked-in you feel when moving side to side.

The Midsole:

This comes down more to personal preference and your foot as it involves the height of the arch, the width of the mid portion of the shoe, etc. Again, try them on and find one that works with the shape of your foot. Some arch is typically a good thing as it will support the natural shape of your foot. How much depends on you.

The Out sole:

All shoes we stock here at Bell Racquet Sports are court shoes and are designed as non-marking. This means that you can wear them on a gym floor, wooden court or tennis court without leaving skid marks regardless of the color of rubber on the bottom of the shoe. This may or may not be true of shoes you buy elsewhere so I take no responsibility for what you leave behind in your (ahem) Skechers or Wal-mart kicks! Durability of the rubber out sole is not as important with pickleball as with tennis or paddle sports we cater to. Yes, you are starting and stopping a lot but with the exception of the most aggressive tour players, overall you are not putting the mileage in or grinding away as hard as you would be on a hard court for tennis. For pickleball, you will typically break down the insole (cushioning / support) before the outsole is worn out. Your knees and back will tell you when it's time for a new pair! Tread pattern is also not terribly important, so I wouldn't get hung up on the herringbone design versus other shapes and patterns. Each brand has their own combination of patterns on the tread and since all are designed for the right combination of grab and movement for court sports it's not worth getting into.

Okay, with that being said. There are two main categories of shoes you can consider, either of which are perfectly fine for pickleball (hooray, more choices!).

Indoor Court Shoes versus Tennis Shoes:

Indoor court shoes are so named because the wearers are typically playing indoor court sports such as racquetball, squash, badminton and volleyball. Pickleball has the unique distinction of being played both indoors and out so we recommend taking into account where you play most often. Both indoor court and tennis sneakers are built for the same type of motion, but the outsole of an indoor court shoe requires less rubber since the rubber doesn't go thru the rigors of wear on an outdoor hard court. Indoor shoes often feature a natural colored rubber (representing the gum rubber of years past). Tennis shoes feature a beefier outsole for more durability. They typically weigh a bit more because they have more material in them. So if you are weight-sensitive for your sports sneakers, indoor court shoes will feel lighter on the foot.

Hopefully this will help you narrow the field and settle on the right pickleball sneakers for you!

Should you want to shop our selection of current and closeout pickleball shoes, feel free to do so by clicking the following links to take you shopping on our web site. If you have input as to a shoe that's worked great for you, leave a comment so that others can benefit from your experience. Thanks for reading!

What Are The Disadvantages Of An Analytical Analysis?™

Analytical analysis enables scientists to measure a big variety of phenomena, enabling them to study subjects as varied as social habits, political viewpoints, cellular biology and forest development rates from an unbiased viewpoint. Analytical methods to research study are far from best, nevertheless, and can produce severe distortions and deceptive conclusions.

Testing Mistake

An analytical test is just as excellent as the information it evaluates. If scientists gather information utilizing malfunctioning or prejudiced treatments, resulting analytical analysis will be deceptive. The term "tasting mistake" represents the space in between the sample population and the real msa assessment population. An extremely representative sample produces really little mistake, however a huge space in between sample and population develops deceptive information. If a scientist studies college trainees about their preferred kind of film by standing outside a football video game with a survey, for example, she may consist of more males than ladies in the sample. That may lead her to conclude improperly that university student choose action motion pictures over romantic funnies.

Connection Versus Causation

Another issue with analytical analysis is the propensity to leap to unjustified conclusions about causal relationships. Scientists typically discover proof that 2 variables are extremely associated, however that does not show that a person variable causes another. For instance, scientists at the New york city Times discovered cities with greater weapon ownership rates likewise had greater murder rates. It's appealing to conclude that to permit more weapons into a city triggered the murder rate to increase, however it's similarly possible that individuals bought weapons due to the fact that they felt threatened by currently raised violent criminal offense rates. Analytical analysis alone is not efficient in showing causal relationships in between 2 variables.

Build Credibility

Analytical analysis is a method of utilizing aggregated measurements to reason, however if scientists aren't determining the best thing, the analysis will stop working. Construct credibility is the degree to which scientists' measurements really show what they're attempting to determine. For instance, marketing scientists generally desire to study how efficiently an advertisement convinces individuals to purchase an item. They approximate the convincing result through studies that attempt to assess customers' "purchase objective" towards the item. The issue, nevertheless, is that while research study individuals may state an advertisement made them wish to purchase the item, their real habits may not show that mindset. The construct credibility of "purchase objective" might be doubtful, due to the fact that purchase objective does not constantly cause real purchases.

Streamlined Solutions

A last issue with analytical analysis is its propensity to produce exceedingly easy responses to complicated concerns. A soft beverage business may check the effectiveness of its advertising campaign, for instance, and through an analytical analysis, identify that the brand-new advertisements might improve sales by 10 percent. No matter how detailed their studies, nevertheless, the business's analytical analysis can't expose precisely why the advertisements work. Perhaps audiences react to a psychological element in the advertisement, or perhaps they were simply advised of a trademark name they currently like. Analytical information can't catch the intricacy of something like feeling really quickly, so analytical analyses typically miss out on subtle but essential info.
